Therapy for Highly Sensitive People
Does this sound familiar?
I feel….
Overwhelmed, exhausted, or burned out from constant stimulation
Anxious and stuck due to overthinking and indecisiveness
Resentful or drained because my needs aren’t being prioritized
Unfulfilled in my relationships, work, or life, yearning for more depth and meaning
Loneliness or shame for being sensitive in a world that feels too chaotic and intense
If so, you’re not alone—and there’s a way to find relief. When you understand yourself as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and learn the right tools, you can feel more recharged, confident, and set up to thrive.
As an HSP, you may..
Become easily overstimulated
Need more downtime to recharge and process experiences
Feel emotions deeply and have a rich inner world
Have strong empathy and absorb others’ emotions
Take extra time to process before making decisions
Pick up on subtle details in your environment that others miss
If you think you may be an HSP, you can take the free test developed by Dr. Elaine Aron, the leading researcher on HSPs.
I work with both HSPs as well as those who identify as an empath and deep-feeler.
What is an Highly Sensitive Person?
Highly Sensitive People are born with a genetic trait that heightens their sensitivity to the world around them. HSPs, also known as having Sensory Processing Sensitivity, make up about 20-30% of the population. From a young age, you may have been called anywhere from “overly sensitive and shy” to “too much and dramatic”. But in reality, your sensitivity is a strength—when nurtured, it can become a superpower.
HSPs are naturally creative, intuitive, and deeply connected to the vibrancy of life. However, without the right support, high sensitivity can feel overwhelming—leading to anxiety, exhaustion, and overload. Therapy can help you harness your sensitivity in a way that supports your well-being rather than drains it.
HSPs have several key qualities:
Depth of Processing
HSPs process life more deeply, often reflecting on and finding meaning in their life, events, and relationships. Since HSPs see multiple perspectives and layers to any given situation, they need more time to pause, ponder, and reflect when making decisions.
Overstimulation
With the breadth of input and stimuli they take in from the world, HSPs can become easily overstimulated and overwhelmed. They need more downtime after being in a social or stimulating environment, and transitions (even the positive kind) can feel like an overload to their system.
Empathy/Emotional Responsiveness
Not only do HSPs have deep emotional responses to the world, but they are also tuned into the emotions of others and are highly empathic. HSPs are sentimental, feel easily moved, and experience the joys and pains of life more strongly.
Sensitivity to Sensory Stimuli
HSPs are more affected by various kinds of sensory stimuli such as loud noises, bright lights, distinct textures, and strong smells. Because they are very tuned into their environments, they tend to notice subtle changes, details, and patterns that others might miss.
